# Chapter 15 - The Architecture Above the Individual: Fleet, Memory, Culture

Last updated 2026-08-09. This page points to the current reference implementation behind Chapter 15 - the open-source Alex ACT plugin constellation led by Alex ACT Core - and to the [fleet, memory, and culture](/fleet/) page that hosts current snapshots of the Mall catalog and the cross-instance learning case studies. The earlier Alex ACT Edition remains the implementation lineage this chapter grew out of, not the current entry point.

### Companion activity

Use the [fleet page](/fleet/) to inspect which artifacts can be distributed across instances and which later retrieval/use would prove that distribution became learning.

### What this chapter argues

The brain + body architecture describes one instance, while many AI partnerships use related configurations across several workspaces. Chapter 15 zooms out to the infrastructure and practices above an individual instance: continuity mechanisms, a capability catalog, announcements, feedback, and post-mortems. In the current constellation the transmission channel is the reviewed release — a lesson travels as an instruction, a skill, or a plugin version, not through a shared memory bus. These mechanisms can distribute an artifact or lesson, but distribution is not learning. Cross-instance learning requires another instance to retrieve the material, apply it appropriately, and improve an observable outcome.

### Key sources

Chapter 15 cites in the print book: D1, D23. Entries below are the sources this page draws on; some are related literature cited elsewhere in the book rather than in this chapter.

- D1 - Correa, F., and contributors. (2025-2026). Alex ACT plugin constellation [Computer software collection]. Core: [github.com/fabioc-aloha/Alex_ACT_Core](https://github.com/fabioc-aloha/Alex_ACT_Core) · [installation guide](https://github.com/fabioc-aloha/Alex_ACT_Core/blob/main/INSTALL.md)

### Primary-source links

- [Alex ACT Core repository](https://github.com/fabioc-aloha/Alex_ACT_Core) - the current reference implementation. Core supplies the shared reasoning conventions, Manager installs and updates them, and the Plugin Mall catalogs optional capabilities. Start from the [installation guide](https://github.com/fabioc-aloha/Alex_ACT_Core/blob/main/INSTALL.md).

- [Alex ACT Edition repository](https://github.com/fabioc-aloha/Alex_ACT_Edition) - the earlier single-repository implementation, kept as lineage. Its .github/copilot-instructions.md shows the original cluster taxonomy and .github/instructions/cross-project-isolation.instructions.md the discipline that prevents one heir's project context from leaking into the rest of the fleet.

### Chapter contents

- Shared memory across heirs - the original fleet bus pattern, and why the current constellation carries lessons as reviewed releases instead.

- Neuroplasticity through skill acquisition (the Mall as the institution where capabilities live).

- Cultural transmission: announcements, feedback, post-mortem propagation.

- What this enables that the individual brain cannot.
