What this chapter argues
Across coding-agent practice, knowledge-work pedagogy, reasoning-model training, and autonomous-agency research, the author found recurring mechanisms that answer similar failure pressures: how work is framed, observed, checked, remembered, improved, and kept under meaningful human control. The seven design commitments are a practical synthesis of those patterns, not a claim that four fields independently discovered one universal architecture.
The June 2026 trade-press term loop engineering names one layer of this architecture well. This book extends the term to the full brain + body system: prefrontal, working memory, long-term memory, dialog interface, motor / sensory, and the nervous-system protocol that connects them.
